The BICA Training Team offers courses for all levels of knowledge a experience amongst infertility counsellors and also courses for other colleagues wishing to understand more fully the role of counsellors in this setting. The team aims to specify to whom each training event is best suited.

Donation and Family Creation

Donation and Family Creation – we are putting on a second study day for counsellors and therapists who wish to develop or refresh their knowledge and skills in work with people who need sperm, egg or embryo donation in order to have a child and with the people who offer their gametes or embryos as the first one was over-subscribed. Course date Monday 5th March 2012, held in London. We will confirm the venue once numbers are known. Places will be limited.

We will explore:
• The impact of fertility loss on the individual, couple and those close to them
• Working with the loss and grief
• The meaning of mother, father and parent in our world today
• The issues to be faced in finding a donor
• Emotional, social and cultural issues in parenting children conceived by donation
• The needs of the child and the donor conceived adult
• Counselling the donors
• The legal framework in the UK
• The counsellors role in the assisted conception centre

Run over two linked days, this essential course is intended for qualified counsellors who are new to practice in a Licensed Clinic or who wish to add to their existing practice in this setting. It is also an adjunct to the BICA Accreditation programme.
