Isobel is a BICA Accredited Infertility Counsellor. She has had many years experience in all aspects of infertility including working with single women and couples (both heterosexual and same sex), donor conception, surrogacy and with people ending treatment. Isobel works also with patients being treated using PGD and with complex genetic conditions and with men and women making transgender fertility choices. She works within the NHS as the Senior Infertility Counsellor for the Assisted Conception Service Unit, Glasgow Royal Infirmary (16 years) and was additionally the Counsellor at Glasgow Centre for Reproductive Medicine (GCRM) for nine years having established the service there. Isobel served as an Exec. Committee member of BICA, as Scottish Representative on the Exec and it's Publications Officer for approximately ten years. Isobel was also the Books Review Editor for the Journal of Fertility Counselling. Isobel continues to be the Chair of the Scottish Infertility Counselling Group. She is also a supervisor and trainer.
Isobel's earlier training was in child protection and sexual trauma, initially in a specialist team and as a team manager. She then practised as a Consultant Couple and Family Therapist both in local authority and in private practice, working with individuals, couples and families and in training therapists working with survivors of sexual and relationship trauma. She worked also for a number of years in adoption assessment and post adoption therapy. She is particularly interested in the impact of infertility on couple and family relationships.
