The Association was founded in 1988 for infertility counsellors with a membership drawn from a variety of professions including counsellors, psychologists, nurses, social workers etc.It was established to represent the interests, views and needs of members actively involved counselling people with fertility issues and of professionals in related research. It seeks to address the many practical, social, psychological and ethical issues around the treatment of assisted conception. BICA is also committed to improving the educational opportunities and training of Infertility Counsellors.

The Association is a registered Charity with its own constitution and guidelines for practice. We expect our members to adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy or other professional Code of Ethics. Administered by an elected Executive Committee and supporting regional groups it is financed through annual membership subscriptions and sponsorship.

New HFEA service - Donor sibling link

In April 2010, we're launching a new service to enable contact between people who share the same sperm, egg or embryo donor.
This will be called Donor Sibling Link and initial pre-launch information about what it does and who it is for can be found on our website at http://www.hfea.gov.uk/donor-sibling-link.html
Donor Sibling Link will be only available to those born as a result of donor-conception treatment in a HFEA licensed clinic after August 1991; who have reached the age of 18 and who wish to share their contact details with their donor-conceived siblings. read more »

New Fertility Support Group for Edinburgh and the Lothian region

There will be a new, free support group for any individual or couple that have had problems or are having problems conceiving, maintaining a pregnancy, wanting pre-conception health information, information on natural fertility awareness or information on assisted conception.
The aim of the service is to provide education and support to those with infertility issues, having difficulty maintaining a pregnancy or who may be going through or thinking of assisted conception treatment. read more »
