NICE calls for an end to postcode lottery of IVF treatment

The NHS should stop rationing fertility treatment and provide 3 full cycles of IVF treatment to women aged under 40 who have failed to get pregnant after 2 years of trying, and 1 full cycle for some women aged 40-42, says NICE.

The new quality standard – which compliments the NICE fertility guideline – emphasises the importance of treating fertility and aims to end the postcode lottery of treatment and support for people with fertility problems.

New DVD featuring donor conceived young people

The Donor Conception Network announce the launch of their new DVDs

They have been working on a new film to replace the wonderful ‘A Different Story’ that was made over 10 years ago. The original film was ground-breaking and featured interviews with donor conceived children and young people about their feelings and experiences. However, the children were all conceived through sperm donation in heterosexual couple families.

Fertility Fairness, formerly the National Infertility Awareness Campaign (NIAC), launched its new website today; it will be a valuable resource for members with information about NHS funding and how you can get involved, it might also be a resource for clients as it includes helpful template letters for writing to CCGs and MPs.

Australia News - Changes to Donor Conception Legislation

Victorian Parliament passes donor information amendments

New legislation giving Victorians conceived through donor sperm donated before 1988 the right to access identifying information about their donors with their donor's consent was passed on August 21, 2014, and will take effect from July 2015.

BICA Press Release: Merck Serono Sponsors Training for Infertility Counsellors

The British Infertility Counselling Assocoiation (BICA), the only professional association for
infertility counsellors in the UK, has today welcomed the decision by Merck Serono to
sponsor its training programme for counsellors new to the field of infertility and assisted
conception.


The HF&E Act (2008) requires licensed centres to offer counselling to all patients and
donors with their partners, if they have them, and the HFEA Code of Practice (ed 9) sets out
the framework within which counselling should be provided.

Update - Consultation on Regulations to Allow Mitochondrial Donation

The Department of Health has today laid its published response to the consultation regarding regulations on mitochondrial replacement before Parliament, and further stated an intention to put the regulations before Parliament.
